EDMONDS

Perhaps there really is something to the adage “like father, like daughter.”

Peggy Pritchard Olson, daughter of the late Joel Pritchard, a Republican representative to the U.S. House of Representatives from Seattle, was elected president of the Edmonds City Council on Tuesday, Jan. 2. She assumes the role from Deanna Dawson.

Assisting Olson will be first-term council member Ron Wambolt, who was elected president pro tem.

Olson, who will complete her first term on the council at the end of 2007, has been active on several council planning committees as well as the organization of area cities and towns called South Snohomish Cities. She will serve on the council-appointed Community Technology, Long-Range Task Force and Seashore Transportation Forum committees plus South Snohomish Cities in 2007.

In her new role, Olson will serve as mayor pro tem in the mayor’s absence, oversee the council’s committee system and set the council agendas.

Wambolt, who has been involved in council committees focusing on economic development, will assume the president’s role in her absence. He will serve on the council Finance committee and on the council-appointed committees of Community Technology Advisory, Edmonds Crossing, Highway 99 Task Force, Long-Range Task Force and the Port of Edmonds (including the Harbor Square Redevelopment committee).

Olson lives with her husband, Norm, in the Seaview neighborhood. Wambolt and his wife, Shirley, live in downtown Edmonds.
