The Northwest Puppet Center opens their 2003-04 season Sept. 26 with an adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantasy tale “The Hobbit.”

Before “Lord of the Rings,” Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf the Wizard and the dwarves embarked on another mythic quest through Middle Earth to find the dragon Smaug’s treasure. Bilbo learns the danger of greed and discovers his own bravery, while setting the stage for the “Lord of the Rings” literary trilogy.

The humor and adventure of J. R. R. Tolkien’s fantasy world is brought to life with hand puppets, rod puppets, shadow puppets, actors, and original music performed live by the Carter Family Marionettes and the Oregon Shadow Theater.

“The Hobbit” performs Sept. 26 through Oct. 26 at the Northwest Puppet Center, located at 9123 15th Ave. NE in Seattle. Tickets are $9.50 for adults, $7.50 for ages 16 &under and $8 for seniors, available at the door 25 minutes before each show, or by phone at 206-523-2579.
