Tears of Joy Theater will bring their bunraku puppets to the Shoreline Community College Campus Theater as they present the tale “Ride the Red Mare,” at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 25.
This classic tale, set in Sweden and adapted from a story by Ursula K. LeGuin, involves Sophia who sets out to rescue her brother, Leo, from trolls who have kidnapped him. The small wooden horse Sophia takes to show her the way is transformed into a magnificent red mare and together they reach the high house of the trolls. Sophia’ s courage and heroism is not of the battling variety; her strength comes through her ability and desire to give. “Ride the Red Mare” is performed with Japanese bunraku style puppets and shadow puppets.
Presented as part of the Shoreline-LFP Arts Council’s Children’s Series, “Ride the Red Mare” is suitable for audiences ages 4 and up. All tickets are $5 and available online at www.shorelinearts.net, by phone 206 417-4645 or at the door the day of the performance.
