Great Harvest Bread Co., known for their whole grain breads and dedication to community involvement, has raised $24,000 for Children’s Hospital. Half the money came from specially made “Bread-y Bears,” of which 750 were sold at all nine stores, including the Lake Forest Park location.
All nine Seattle-area Great Harvest stores donated their entire proceeds from one day’s sales of all breads, sweets and specialty items.
The featured item, last Sunday only, was a $15 “Bread-y Bear,” a honey-wheat bread bear baked especially for this fund-raising promotion. The bears were named by patients at Children’s Hospital. A handmade name tag accompanied each bear sold. In addition, paper “Miracle Bears” are being sold all month for $1 and posted throughout the stores. Nearly 3,500 had been sold by last Sunday, Sept. 18.
Consistently ranked as one of the best children’s hospitals in the country by U.S. News &World Report, Children’s serves as the pediatric referral center for Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. Children’s serves as the primary pediatric teaching site for the University of Washington School of Medicine, according to a press release.
