LYNNWOOD — This sister and brother couldn’t be much more different from each other, says their mom. But one thing they do have in common is their positive and committed attitudes toward their jobs as Enterprise Newspaper carriers.
Tiffany and James Coleman were voted 2002 Carriers of the Year by Lynnwood readers.
While the routes that were started about five years ago were technically Tiffany’s, James was just as involved in making sure newspapers were delivered as she was – he was just too young to be official. Now at 16 and 12, the two have made enough money over the years to buy particular things they wanted such as brother and sister Schipperke dogs. They not only bought the expensive, purebred dogs on their own, but also pay to maintain and feed them.
Tiffany, a sophomore at Meadowdale High School, has just recently found herself a “real” job and is now considering giving the full route responsibility to her willing brother.
Many on her route will surely miss her.
“Tiffany is polite, cordial, never a problem. With teens like her, there is definite hope for the future,” said Lynnwood residents John and Irene Mataka.
Others agreed and added she is “sweet and dependable” as well.
“She is very kind to both of our hyperactive dogs, and even remembers their names,” said Lynnwood resident Cheri Haderlie. “I am very impressed with her as a carrier, she is a great young lady.”
Along with her dog “Molly,” Tiffany also saved money from her route to buy her own car, she said.
Her brother James, a sixth grader at Lynndale Elementary, has his own fans as well.
Another Lynnwood resident, Lori Hagen, said she would be remiss not to bring James to our attention.
“He’s a delightful young man. He is always pleasant, brings the paper to our doorstep and if I’m present, hands it to me with cheerfulness,” Hagen said. “He certainly deserves some recognition.”
Along with saving money for his dog “Bear,” James also saved enough from his route to buy his own bicycle. James loves to play basketball and baseball and just recently made the majors team sponsored by Windermere Real Estate, he said.
“The Coleman’s have been a good representation of the newspaper and their involvement has brought them the recognition,” said Monica Moyer, the circulation manager for the Enterprise. “It is nice to see residents showing their appreciation for these youth, and it’s nice that it’s not just coming directly from us.”
Tiffany and James’ mom, Julie Coleman, said she thinks it is “awesome” the two of them were voted top carriers.
“They appreciate it and it helps them to keep working hard,” she said.
