The Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council presents a special Readers’ Theatre Monday, May 19 with the reading of “Like Water For Chocolate,” a play by Meadowdale High School senior Carissa Quisenberry.
The play is an adaptation of the book “Like Water for Chocolate” by Laura Esquivel. It’s a story about a girl named Tita growing up in a household with a tyrant for a mother who does everything she can to keep Tita away form her one true love.
“Like Water for Chocolate” is Quisenberry’s senior project, a high school requirement that demonstrates the culmination of a student’s work in high school.
“For as long as I can remember I have been involved in theatrical organizations and have always enjoyed being a part of the dramatic process, Quisenberry said. “I’ve done almost everything involved with theater; lighting, costumes, make-up, set, and of course acting. But with this project I am going to be both writing and directing a play, two things I have no experience in whatsoever and have always wanted to try.”
Quisenberry was born in Lancaster, Calif. She’s been involved in the Arts and Theater since she was a little girl. Three years ago she moved to Edmonds and is currently a senior at Meadowdale High School.
Readers’ Theatre presentations are cast readings of original, unproduced plays. The reading will be at the Shoreline Center in the Aurora Room. Admission is free and the readings will be followed by coffee, cookies, and a discussion between the cast, the audience, and the playwright.
