Just what the heck (I’m being polite) is going on with the so-called administrators of Stevens Hospital? A recent article in The Enterprise has me wondering what is going on with “my” hospital!
How can two administrators, both from out of state, come to our community hospital and even begin to think about relocating to a new location, “north and east” of its current site? I have known Stevens Hospital from day one in 1964 and the area needs Stevens right where it’s at, period. In the past 38 years, my two daughters were born there; I have had 18 surgeries at Stevens, with two others within the Stevens community. I worked there for 15 years. Prior to that, I volunteered and am currently an Auxiliary member. My two daughters volunteered and were also employed there. I lived in the Edmonds/Lynnwood area most of my life, and just where do “they” think they are going to find property large enough “north and east” of its current site? Hello!
My husband and I now enjoy retirement in Burlington. We toured the new Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon last year, built adjacent to the original existing building. This gorgeous facility was built for approximately $96 million; 6,700 people voted yes. Stevens’ administrators say $400 million?
Stevens needs to “replace” its facility with a brand new hospital on its campus, connecting the Cancer Treatment Center and the Stevens Pavilion, using the existing parking areas. A parking garage would replace the current parking area.
With the hospital possibly going “north and east” from its current location, what will the doctors and hospital do in case of an emergency? Just look at the medical office buildings within a square mile! Skagit Valley Hospital stayed right within its medical community.
Rebuild Stevens on its current site. The “old” building could then house the departments that are currently in two other buildings.
