Recession can be a time of opportunity

It’s easy to let the foreboding nature of an economic downturn incite a feeling of panic and helplessness.

However, it is precisely this time that businesses must seize the opportunity for self-improvement and creativity for the future.

Some of today’s most well-known businesses — Hershey’s, 20th Century Fox, Microsoft, Apple and Adobe, just to name a few — started during times of economic instability. These businesses thrived in uncertain times through a mix of ingenuity and sheer bravado.

Though times are hard for owners of small businesses, there is much to be thankful for. By bolstering creativity, recessions can improve the quality or service of a business.

In addition to the creativity boost, economic slumps can strengthen a business. Companies that make it through a recession will, typically, have stronger roots and more durability because of the struggle.

Though it might not seem like much, there is a silver lining. Adapt, stay resilient and have hope — there is always room for more creative businesses in the world.
