Robert Reedy of Mountlake Terrace, who said two weeks ago that he would run as a Republican, against Democratic 32nd District State Rep. Cindy Ryu, will run instead against Democratic Rep. Ruth Kagi, and he will use the designation “G.O.P.”
He said Wednesday that he had found that another Republican would challenge Ryu and added that “G.O.P.” had always meant Republican.
The Republican who will challenge Ryu is Randy Hayden of Edmonds.
Kagi is seeking an eighth two-year term, Ryu a second term.
The 32nd District includes Lynnwood, part of Mountlake Terrace, Woodway, south Edmonds, nearby unincorporated areas of southwest Snohomish County, Shoreline and part of northwest Seattle.
The filing period continues through Friday at 5 p.m.
Partisan offices appear on the Aug. 7 ballot even with only two candidates.
Donors can make contributions to a candidate of up to $800 for the primary and $800 more for the general election.
Ryu has reported raising $43,328 and spending $14,865 Kagi has raised $12,707 and spent $5,000. Neither challenger reports any fundraising or spending.
The top two vote-getters in the Aug. 7 primary advance to the Nov. 6 general election regardless of party.
