Registration brochures are now available for the 21st annual Write on the Sound Writers’ Conference, presented by the Edmonds Arts Commission on Oct. 7 and 8.
Hosted each fall at Edmonds’ Frances Anderson Center, Write on the Sound features two full days of workshops taught by regional authors, educators and trade professionals. Write on the Sound is designed as an opportunity to meet other writers, share ideas, garner information, establish friendships and communicate with like-minded people.
Presented by the Edmonds Arts Commission, the conference provides more than 30 unique workshops on Saturday and Sunday. A writing contest with the theme of “Gathering” (deadline Sept. 8) is featured this year. View the exhibit by artists Tina Hoggatt and Virginia Pacquette, browse the on-site bookstore during breaks and gather at the end of the day on Saturday for a public reception and book signing. New this year is a three hour “Story CPR” class with Janet Lee Carey on Sunday.
Prior to the conference, a half-day of manuscript critique workshops will take place from 1-5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6 at Edmonds Community College. These workshops provide a unique opportunity to work closely with a published author/instructor in either fiction, nonfiction, or poetry. Registration for the manuscript critique workshops is $55; sign up early as each class is limited to 7-10 participants.
Award-winning writer Elizabeth George, author of the Inspector Lynley mysteries, will be the keynote speaker this year. Her lecture is at 1:15 p.m. Saturday Oct. 7 at the Edmonds Theatre, located at 415 Main St. It is open to the public but seating is limited. General admission tickets are $10 and available at the door or in advance by calling 425-771-0228 or 425-771-0230.
