Rep. Mary Helen Roberts and Republican challenger Brian Travis beat out Republican Douglas Kerley for the top two spots in the 21st legislative district’s position one battle.
Early results released Aug. 19 show Roberts winning 66 percent of the vote, Travis winning 23.8 percent and Kerley winning 10 percent of the Aug. 19 vote.
The 21st legislative district includes Edmonds, Lynnwood, Mukilteo and parts of unincorporated Snohomish County.
Roberts and Travis will face each other in the November general election.
In the 21st district’s other race, incumbent Rep. Marko Liias won 61.6 percent of the vote, and Republican challenger — and 18-year-old Mountlake Terrace resident — Andrew Funk won 38 percent.
Liias and Funk will square off again in November.
Court battles
Voters also set up a November Superior Court judicial race between George Appel and Joe Wilson, after they edged opponent, and Edmonds attorney, Jim Johanson.
Appel was the top vote getter for the court’s Position Six winning 39.7 percent of the vote, Wilson was second with 37.0 percent and Johanson won 22.7 percent.
Johanson conceded Aug. 19, according to the Everett Herald.
“We worked hard. We had a good campaign plan,” Johanson said. “I was surprised to see the numbers as low as they were. I don’t think they’ll change much.”
