Run of the Mill attracts racers of all ages

MILL CREEK — Four Jackson High School runners were near the front of the pack at last weekend’s 19th annual Run of the Mill.

Jeff Helmer placed third at the July 10 race and was joined by Jackson teammates Tom Heneghan, Patrick Croteau and Stephen Collord in the top 10.

Mark Vaneycke, 40, of Fircrest, clocked the fastest time of the day, completing the 5.5K downhill course in 17 minutes, 2 seconds.

Kristina Owen, 19, of East Wenatchee, was first among female runners with a time of 20 minutes, 50 seconds.

More than 360 runners took part in this year’s race, sponsored by the South Snohomish County Chamber of Commerce.
