A colorful array of paintings and monotypes by local artists Ann Blanch, Roxine McQuitty, Janet Silbergeld and Jodi Waltier are featured in the SAC Gallery now through Oct. 27.

Ann Blanch says she “paints like she is crossing a stream-paint, keep my balance, paint, keep my balance.” Her abstract paintings use color boldly and energetically.

Roxine McQuitty’s cutting boards deal with history and tradition. Found in thrift shops, she inks the boards for surface and crevice finding their stories in the distinctive shapes, patterns, burns and gouges in the cuts.

Janet Silbergeld’s paintings and monotypes are explorations of remembered places. She uses repeated application, manipulation and removal of paint or ink. She focuses on color and composition to get an initial idea/inspiration to a final organized, personal landscape.

The current work by Jodi Waltier comes from her garden. She cuts natural shapes and forms from cardboard while sitting outside then brings them indoors to the press to print in a variety of combinations. The resulting work is crisp and alive with color and texture.

The Gallery at the Shoreline Center is located in the Community Wing of the Shoreline Center, 18560 1st Avenue NE in Shoreline. Regular gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, or by appointment. For more information visit www.shorelinearts.net or call 206-417-4645.
