Cause unknown in Dec. 31 Edmonds Marina fire

Fire investigators were wrapping up the investigation into the Dec. 31, 2011, blaze at the Edmonds Marina.

The fire was reported just before 4 a.m.

Two yachts were destroyed, and two people in another boat had to be rescued by firefighters. Flames shot 50 feet into the air.

Snohomish County Fire District 1 investigators ruled the fire “undetermined,” meaning there wasn’t enough information available to pinpoint an exact cause, district spokeswoman Leslie Hynes said. There was some evidence indicating an electrical problem.

“It was undetermined, but there were concerns about the electricity,” she said.

They found nothing to indicate the fire was suspicious.

Fire damages Edmonds-area garage

An Edmonds-area family of four was displaced Aug. 19 after a garage fire caused smoke damage to their home.

The fire started just before 2 p.m. at a two-story house in the 15100 block of 62nd Avenue W, said Leslie Hynes, spokeswoman for Snohomish County Fire District 1.

A 12-year-old boy was home alone at the time.

Crews arrived to find flames inside the garage and heavy black smoke throughout the house. The fire was extinguished in about 15 minutes. No injuries were reported.

Damage was estimated at $80,000, mostly from smoke.

“Investigators have been unable to determine an exact cause, but at this time they do not believe this is a suspicious fire,” Hynes said.

Crews also responded from Lynnwood.

EDMONDS

Aug. 15: Theft. 24000 block of Highway 99. An antique rag valued at $1,470 was sold at a consignment store for $189 because the price tag had been switched.

Aug. 16: Harassment. 8300 block of Talbot Road. A neighbor appeared to be harassing city employees because of upcoming road work in the area.

LYNNWOOD

Aug. 19: Threats. 6500 block of 208th Street SW. A man is suspected of threatening a woman after she asked him to stop smoking marijuana in the apartment.

Aug. 20: Traffic accident. 18700 block of 33rd Avenue W. A collision between a 2012 Kia and a bicyclist.

Aug. 20: Neglect. 19700 block of Highway 99. A 3-year-old and a 3-month-old were left alone outside a store while their mother shopped.

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE

Aug. 15: Domestic. 21500 block of 52nd Ave. W. A 30-year-old man strangled a woman and threw her to the ground. He was taken into custody and began hitting his head against the partition and window bars until he bled heavily. He was transported to Swedish Hospital in Edmonds pending medical release.

Aug. 9: Suspicious circumstance. 7200 block of 227th Place SW. Witnesses reported a suspicious occupied car parked in front of a house. An officer arrived and saw a man inside the car trying to file down a key with a brick and detained him. Police learned that the car had been stolen out of Seattle and the suspect had a history of auto theft.

FIRE DISTRICT 1

Aug. 15: Collision. Southbound I-5 near 164th Street SW. Firefighters responded to a one-car rollover collision. The driver of the car died in the collision.

Aug. 13: Hazardous materials response. 2600 block of 162nd Street SW. Firefighters were dispatched to a chemical spill at a business. The building was evacuated and no one was injured.

Aug. 13: Collision. 23100 block of 56th Avenue W. At 10:10 p.m., a driver struck a pedestrian and left the scene. The pedestrian was injured and transported to Swedish Hospital in Edmonds.
