Shoplifting trio cause crash in Edmonds
A car crash in Edmonds the night of June 14 was caused by alleged shoplifters trying to run from police, Edmonds police Sgt. Mike Blackburn said.
Officers were called to Top Food and Drug along Highway 99 after a man was seen running from the store with two baskets full of groceries.
The suspect reportedly jumped into a waiting van before it sped southbound.
Police tried to pull over the van nearby, but it accelerated, ran a red light and crashed into another car, Blackburn said. At that point, the van’s driver ran away.
A Redmond woman, 41, who had been riding in the van was seriously injured. No one else was seriously hurt.
The suspected shoplifter, 41, of Everett, was arrested at the scene.
