My name is Paul. I am a fifth-grade student at Seaview Elementary School. In our local creeks, rivers, ocean and streams there are salmon and they are in danger. Some ways the salmon are in danger are from washing cars near storm drains, which lead to creeks, streams, and rivers. Instead, go to a car wash where the water leads to a sewer, or wash your car in your yard. This will not harm salmon at all.
Putting old oil in storm drains or water could pollute a whole block of water and anti freeze is bad too. Littering is such a bad thing too. Most litter will go to storm drains and get washed down to creeks. Litter can get caught on any animal and maybe kill it. Littering isn’t cool, it’s just being lazy. The exhaust from cars and boats is pollution too.
Pets, well, they do something normal. They poop, which is fine. Just clean up after them because it’s also bad for fish. So please pick up after your pets. Tell your friends to help with the environment as well, maybe even clean storm drain when you’re bored and pick up trash.
Our class went to the Perinville Creek to test the water. We did a pH test and an ammonia test. Also we tested how fast the water went, measured the temperature, and collected and sorted bugs. The reason we looked for bugs is that some bugs can only live in very clean water and some of these bugs need the same kind of water as salmon. We found out that the Perrinville Creek is a good place to release our baby salmon.
