Santiago finishes second at state

Lynnwood’s Francis Santiago took second place in the boys 14-15 division at the Washington State Junior Championship July 30 at the Everett Golf and Country Club.

Santiago, who held a two-stroke lead going into the final round, was victimized by a strong round from Alex Wotherspoon on Friday. Wotherspoon shot a 2-under-par 70 to win by three strokes. Santiago shot 75 in the final round.

Other local finishers included Bothell’s Skyler Riley (eighth in the boys 16-17 division), Edmonds’ Jonathan Keane (24th in boys 16-17), Edmonds’ Andrew Gihm (26th in boys 16-17), Mill Creek’s Sean Fitzpatrick (20th in boys 14-15) and Mountlake Terrace’s Daniel Nelson (15th in boys 8-11).

WJGA state champions were: boys 16-17 division, Shawn Tonkin (Mercer Island); 14-15 boys, Alex Wotherspoon (Sammamish); 12-13 boys, Andrew Yun (University Place); 8-11 boys, Carl Jonson (Bainbridge Island); 16-17 girls, Jenna Moore (Renton), 14-15 girls, Christine Cho (Kent); 12-13 girls, Michelle Ahn (Tacoma); 8-11 girls, Jennifer Lee (Tacoma).
