Save the water!

Hi, my name is Natalie Nichols. I am a fifth-grader at Seaview Elementary. OK, down to business. I am going to talk about why, what and what can we do about saving our water.

Why should we care about water? We should care about it because we need clean water to drink. In dirty water there are bacteria and things that can make us sick. We use water we use it for bathing, cooking and washing. If you take a bath in dirty water, you can get a disease. The animals use and drink it. If the water is dirty and there is trash and oil in it, all the fish and living things will die off.

What have I done? My class and I went on a field trip to the Perrinville Creek. We observed it, we tested the water temperature, counted the bugs, saw how fast the water was going and tested the ammonia level. In my class I watched a movie about the watershed, the storm drain and the sewage. The storm drain doesn’t get treated. All the dirty water gets flushed down the toilet but the sewage does get treated. The dirty water that goes down the street doesn’t get cleaned along the way. Last, some speakers came and spoke to us about water and how we can help it more.

We would appreciate any help you can give like picking up trash you see in streams, creeks and oceans or not dumping oil in the oceans or not using more water than needed.

Now I’ve talked about why, what and what can we do to save our water.
