The new season of Shoreline Community College’s esteemed piano series opens at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23 as two of SCC’s newest piano faculty members, Iwona Kaminska-Bowlby and Dainius Vaicekonis, share a solo recital of works titled “At the Brink of Modernism.”

The recital, a fundraiser for the college’s Piano Scholarship Fund, will feature pieces by Debussy, Schonberg, Skriabin, Prokofiev and more.

Dr. Kaminska-Bowlby is a Polish-born pianist and winner of several distinguished awards including the Stefan Batory Award and the Mozart Akademie Scholarship. She began her education as a performer in her native Poland, where she studied at the Frédéric Chopin Academy in Warsaw under two prominent pianists, Andrzej Stefanski and Tatiana Schebanova. She and her husband, Christopher Bowlby, have been active duo-pianists, performing in Western Canada and the United States.

Vaicekonis is a DMA candidate at the University of Washington and a winner of The International F. Schubert Piano Competition. He has presented many solo and chamber music recitals throughout the United States and Europe.

A reception will follow the performance. The concert will be presented in SCC’s Campus Theater, located at 16101 Greenwood Ave. N. Ticket prices are $10 for the general public, $8 for seniors and students and $4 for children 14 and younger and SCC students, available by calling 206-546-4606.
