SCC Piano Series season opens Nov. 7

After a successful run last year, the Shoreline Community College Faculty Piano Series opens a new season at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7 with a program titled “A North American Mosaic.”

Music faculty members Iwona Kaminska-Bowlby and Christopher Bowlby will perform music written by living composers of the United States and Canada, including Frederic Rzewski’s “North American Ballade #4,” Laura Kaminsky’s “Danza Piccola” and John Corigliano’s “Fantasy on an Ostinato.” They will also premier two new duo works, “Twilight Dance” by Canadian composer Owen Bloomfield as well as Shoreline composer Dr. Jeff Junkinsmith in his new work, “Rashamon.” Works by Rzewski, Kaminsky and Corigliano will be featured. Two new works by Canadian composer Owen Bloomfield and Shoreline Community College composer, Dr. Jeff Junkinsmith will also be performed.

The 2004-2005 Piano Series, which benefits the Shoreline Piano Scholarship Fund, features four Sunday afternoon recitals, Nov. 7, Jan. 30, April 10 and April 24, 2005. The series presents unique programs of solo and duo repertoire, featuring works that stylistically cover the history of European and American art music. Recitals take place in the Campus Theater, located at 16101 Greenwood Avenue N., Shoreline, with receptions following. General admission is $10, $8 for seniors and children 14 and younger.
