Shoreline Community College President Holly Moore, Foundation and College Development Director Kae Peterson, and Trustees Jeff Lewis, Dick Stucky and Elsa Welch recently attended the National Association of Community and Technical College’s Legislative Summit in Washington, D.C. Student Legislative Director Megan Ballock, an Edmonds resident, also attended the three-day event.

Ballock was one of approximately 40 college students to attend the summit and talk to Congressional legislators about student perception of higher education.

She advocated for Perkins, PELL and workforce training funding and addressed the proposed 74 percent cut on Adult Basic Education by the Bush Administration.

Ballock, vice president of leadership and service for Phi Theta Kappa at Shoreline CC, was the only student from Washington state to participate at the summit. Approximately 2,000 people attended; mostly college presidents, trustees, vice presidents and workforce educators. Ballock was asked to consider an internship in Washington, D.C.

Ballock plans to complete her bachelor’s degree in political communications at the University of Washington and a master’s degree in public policy. She hopes to run for public office someday.
