Date for school closure hearing changed
The date for the second hearing on the proposed closure of North City Elementary has been changed to 6 p.m. March 28 at the school, 816 NE 190th St. in Shoreline.
North City Elementary and Sunset Elementary have been proposed for closure. Room Nine Community School and Home Education Exchange are programs housed in facilities that may be closed. The programs would be then moved to existing alternative sites.
The second round of hearings is:
• 6 p.m. March 14, Sunset Elementary, 17800 10th NW
• 6 p.m. March 22, Room Nine Community School, 2800 NE 200th St.
•7:30 p.m. March 22, Home Education Exchange, held across the street at 2800 NE 200th St.
• 6 p.m. March 28, North City Elementary, 816 NE 190th St.
Locals can help disabled students
Shorewood High School students with severe disabilities are trying to earn a van through the Campbell’s labels for education program. Locals can help by:

Kellogg holds rummage sale
Kellogg Middle School PTSA will hold a Rummage Sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 10 in the Kellogg cafeteria, 16045 25th Ave. NE in Shoreline. Sales will support learning enhancements – including math and science – through the Kellogg PTSA.
Drop-off items will be accepted from 2:30-3 p.m. March 5 and March 8 at Portable 607 at Kellogg and from 3-8 p.m. March 9 at the Kellogg cafeteria.

Shorecrest Booster Club holds event
The Shorecrest Booster Club is hosting a “007 Casino Royale” Auction and Dinner March 31 at Shoreline Center. Registration and silent auctions begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner and a live auction at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are on sale for $45 per person until March 10, and $55 after March 10. For more information, see www.scboosters.org.
Auto instructor wins award
Peter Smith, automotive instructor at Shorewood High School, was recognized as the top user of an online-based national safety and pollution prevention program for students.
The Coordinating Committee For Automotive Repair (CCAR) offers the 3S/P22 online course free of charge to automotive training programs such as the one at Shorewood.
As the top instructor, Smith was hosted by the CCAR at the National Automobile Dealers Association convention earlier this month in Las Vegas, Nev.
Brookside carnival set for March 16
A carnival and silent auction will be held at Brookside Elementary, 17447 37th Ave. NE, from 6-8:30 p.m. March 16. In addition to 25-cent carnival games, food will be available for purchase. More than fifty auction items, including golf lessons, restaurant gift certificates and a Hawaiian luau can be bid on.
The event is a fundraiser to send the school’s sixth graders to Camp Orkila in the fall. For information, call Brookside Elementary at (206) 368-4140.
