Shoreline Kinderfest in January
The Shoreline School District Kinderfest will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, in the Shoreline Room at Shoreline Center, 18560 First Ave. NE. The event gives parents who will enroll their children in kindergarten for 2007-08 a chance to gather information about kindergarten programs and services.
Topics to be covered include curriculum, registration, transportation, health and safety, before and after school care, immunization requirements, student services and all-day or half-day programs. Parents also can visit a kindergarten classroom.
Kindergarten registration for 2007-08 begins Tuesday, Jan. 30. Parents can register their child at the school in their attendance area on Tuesday, Jan. 30 from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Effective Jan. 31, the registration hours will be between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. any school day. Packets will be at elementary buildings Jan. 17.
To be eligible, a child must turn 5 on or before Aug. 31 of the year they are entering school. Early entrance is an option for those who turn 5 between Sept. 1 and Oct. 31.

Rotary Students of the Month for Dec.
The Shoreline Rotary students of the month are Kevin Ruhlman, Kevin Lane and Alex DeDonker.
• Kevin Ruhlman attends Shorecrest High School and has a GPA of 3.953. He is in Bible study, Awana Youth Program, National Honor Society, wind ensemble, jazz ensemble, marching band and pep band.
He won mention in “Who’s Who in American High Schools,” was No. 1 runner for varsity cross country, rookie of the year for varsity cross country, honor guard-class of 2006 and graduation varsity cross country captain.
He is a worship team drummer at Tabernacle Baptist Church and a grade-eight youth soccer referee help coach. Ruhlman has participated in youth soccer team, vacation Bible school and has passed out water at the Super Jock n’ Jill Marathon. He also directed and organized the 12th Annual Shoreline Candy Cane Dash, a community run/walk, for his Senior Project.
He has been on the varsity men’s cross country team, junior varsity soccer, varsity soccer, freshman basketball and junior varsity basketball.
He plans to attend Cedarville University in Ohio, a private Christian college with about 3,200 students. Ruhlman has plans to pursue a business degree and may run cross country and track or play intramural soccer.
He was a three-time state qualifier for cross country athlete in 2005, Soccer State Champion Team Wesco South Honorable Mention and Second Team North County Cross Country Invite first place in the sophomore race.
• Kevin Lane attends Shorewood High School and has a GPA of 3.897. He has been in jazz band, advanced placement music theory and has been a marching band drum major. He’s volunteered with the Mountains-to-Sound Greenway and been in pep band for basketball games.
Lane plans to graduate college with a music performance degree and play music professionally, either with a professional jazz band, pit orchestra or concert band. He eventually wants to write and record his own material.
His awards include International Association for Jazz Education, Special Citation Award for Outstanding Musicianship; Fullerton College Jazz Festival; University of Nevada, Reno Jazz Festival Recognition of Outstanding Musicianship; and letter award in band/varsity band.
•Â Alex DeDonker attends King’s High School, where he maintains a GPA of 3.9. He’s been Student of the Month, on the Honor Roll and won a Christianity in Action award. His favorite subject is chemistry.
He’s served the student body as senior class president and treasurer, senior yearbook editor, photo editor, Link Crew leader, in varsity football, and as a fundraising leader, Homecoming skit representative and Homecoming court prince.
DeDonker also participated in Vacation Bible School, the Alderwood Boys and Girls Club, has been head coach for Boys Youth Team, has done varsity track and drama, and played the knave in Alice in Wonderland.
He participated in the Hurricane Katrina fundraiser, was a Wesco Interhigh Difference Maker invitee and volunteered at the Calvery Soup Kitchen and Food Life Line.
DeDonker has worked as a laborer at BDZ Construction.
