E-W drill team hosts competition
this weekend
The girls of the Edmonds Woodway High School Drill Team will host their Second Annual Drill &Dance Competition.
Team performances will all be part of the activities starting at 1 p.m. Jan. 20.
Seventeen teams from the state will participate at the high school. Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for students and seniors and free for children under age 5.
Brighton School Open House to be held
Brighton School will be holding an open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 20. Current families as well as those families looking for a school for next fall are welcome.
There will be a brief presentation, questions will be answered and then parents will have the ability to break into groups based on their interest to tour the classrooms and ask any other questions that may come to mind. The administration as well as teachers will be there to discuss the school and curriculum with prospective parents.

Cheer Squad holds clinic
The Mountlake Terrace High School Cheer Squad is holding their annual Cheerleading Clinic from 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 27 in the school gym. Cost is $30 and includes T-shirt, poms, snack and other surprises.

Idol performance on tap at high school
Terrace Idol, a fundraiser for the Mountlake Terrace High School Senior Class ASB, involves students from Edmonds-Woodway, Lynnwood, Meadowdale, and Shorecrest high schools.
Terrace Idol, a spin-off of the hit TV series “American Idol,” is a vocal contest between students. It includes three rounds, with contestants being eliminated each night. The first round was held Jan. 12.
The second and final rounds are at 7 p.m. Jan. 19 and 26 at the school’s theater.
At each show there will be professional musician judges that critique each performer after his or her performance. The judges decide which contestants proceed to the second and final rounds, but on the last night the audience’s vote determines the “Terrace Idol 2007”.
SAT Prep courses offered at school
SAT Prep Courses are being offered at Meadowdale High School, the only location in the Edmonds School District for the course. Students do not need to be a student at Meadowdale to enroll.
The 16-hour course aims to familiarize students with test directions, types of questions and test-taking strategies.
This year’s session is supported by the Meadowdale High School Music Boosters. A portion of the registration fee goes to their general fund to support the music program.

Course A dates are 5:45-8:30 p.m. Jan. 31, Feb. 7, 14, 21, 28, and March 7. Registration deadline is Jan. 24. Course B dates are 5:45-8:30 p.m. April 12, 17, 19, 24, 26 and May 1. Registration deadline is April 5.
Music auditions held for Academy of Music Academy of Music Northwest announces open auditions for Classical Chamber Music Ensembles, held in Edmonds. Strings, winds, harp, classical guitar, and piano pre-college performers will meet one hour a week for 15 weeks in ensembles with professional chamber musicians, to prepare for a concert June 3 and possible additional concerts.
Rehearsals begin in February. Preformed ensembles may audition as a group. The registration/audition fee is $25. Fee for accepted performers: $325.
