Jackson students filmed for program

Jackson High students in the TATU club, which stands for Teens Against Tobacco Use, were filmed for a health story on KING-TV 5.

The program, “Clearing the Air: A Healthlink Special with Jean Enersen” airs at 9 p.m. Oct. 28. The program also will air on KONG-TV 16 at 7 p.m. Oct. 28 and at 10 p.m. Oct. 31 on Northwest Cable News.

Donate coats for local needy kids

Locals can donate coats for kids in need this month through Cozy Coats for Kids, a coat drive launched by the Steiner Family Foundation.

Through Nov. 1, donors can drop off new or “like new” coats in any size, from baby to teen, at Albertson’s in the Canyon Park Shopping Center and Park Ridge Community Church, 3805 Maltby Rd., Bothell.

Donors also can organize their local club or church to help with the drive and make a bigger impact.

The coats will be given to children all over Snohomish County, primarily foster children and students in the Everett School District.

Career fair Oct. 25 for local students

The second annual “What About Tomorrow?” Career and College Fair will be held Oct. 25 at the Everett Events Center. Students, staff, parents, and community members are invited to the fair from 2:30-7 p.m. Oct. 25.

Several Jackson High School students are scheduled to attend the fair during field trips earlier that day. The event is hosted by Everett Public Schools and WorkSource Snohomish County.

In addition to the post-secondary colleges, universities, technical schools and trade and apprenticeship programs, professionals from Snohomish County’s top 10 employment sectors will be on hand to help students connect with their potential career goals.

Businesses include the City of Everett, Goodrich, Microsoft, construction and trades, the Washington Restaurant Association, Nordstrom and more.

UW Bothell hosts Freshman Day

The University of Washington Bothell will host Freshman Preview Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 28 to give high school students and their families a look into the school. The event will be held at the North Creek Events Center.

It will showcase the opportunities available to freshmen at the school, what can be done with a UW Bothell degree, how to write a compelling personal statement, how to finance school and what academic support services are available.

Providence Classical Christian School will host its annual Open House at 7 p.m. Nov. 28 at the school, 21500 Cypress Way, Lynnwood.

Interested students and parents can speak with teachers, administrators and parents at the event and view curriculum displays.

They also can observe classes at 8:15 a.m. the next day, Nov. 29.
