New district public relations officer

The Shoreline School District has hired Craig Degginger as its new Public Information Officer, or PIO, effective today, Friday Oct. 13. The position handles community and media relations for the district.

Degginger was a public information specialist for the University of Washington Medical Center for eight years. He was the editor of the weekly newsletter, worked as a media spokesman, wrote press releases, coordinated media coverage for special events and worked with community relations.

Prior to his position at the university, Degginger was the editor and general manager of the Northshore Citizen newspaper. He is a graduate of the University of Washington in editorial journalism/communications and was editor of the Daily, the campus newspaper.

Degginger lives in Shoreline and is a parent of a fifth grader at Meridian Park Elementary. He is a member of the Shoreline Breakfast Rotary and is involved in numerous community organizations.

Phonathon supports students

The Shoreline Public Schools Foundation’s 13th Annual Phonathon will be held from 3-8 p.m. Nov. 5.

The Phonathon raises funds to support the Foundation’s Classroom Grants and community-wide grant programs, which enhance learning for all students in the Shoreline School District.

Free homework help is available

The Shoreline Family Support Center is offering homework help to students from 4-6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays through Dec. 14.

Volunteers will be available to help children in kindergarten through eighth grade. Arts and crafts also will be offered.

WSU students make honor roll

The following Washington State University students from Shoreline have earned recognition on the Summer 2006 President’s Honor Roll: Ann Louise Dahlgren, Kelle Amanda Jones, Erika Murphy Keech, Frances Ann Strosahl and Valerie M. Wishaar.

To be eligible, a full-time student must earn a 3.75 grade point average for the semester or have maintained a 3.5 cumulative GPA.

Crescendo School opens locally

Crescendo Arts &Music School has moved to a large facility on the border of Shoreline and Edmonds.

The school uses art, music, world culture and creativity to each. Founded by Fanovitch “Chanel” Sebasstian in 1997, Crescendo began as Home Family Child Care in Fanovitch’s small Greenwood home.

Crescendo offers preschool, before and after school programs and private piano and drum lessons. It offers courses in guitar, performing arts, foreign languages, music and dance.

It services Parkwood, Meridian Park and Syre Elementary schools with its own passenger van pick-up and drop off. Edmonds Elementary Schools pick-up and drop off are serviced by the Edmonds School busing system.
