SCC is satellite for GRAMMY U

The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences recently selected Shoreline Community College as their northwest regional satellite GRAMMY University Network campus.

GRAMMY U is a not-for-profit organization that supports college students pursuing careers in the music industry. SCC is one of only a dozen colleges across the country to be selected as a GRAMMY U campus. The academy is best known as the organization that presents the televised GRAMMY Awards.

SCC GRAMMY U members will be offered a heavily discounted membership for only $25, which grants them access to GRAMMY U and academy events and other services.

SCC music students who become members will have the opportunity to meet professional musicians and recording artists, producers, artists and engineers.

They also will have the opportunity to perform for professionals and get feedback and attend an official GRAMMY viewing party. As a satellite campus, SCC will host seminars, master classes and panel discussions throughout the year.

Highly capable testing in January

Screening for the Shoreline School District’s Highly Capable Program for elementary grades will begin in January 2007. All district and interested private- school first-grade students will be tested.

Parents of first graders received information in the mail about testing and can decline testing by signing and returning a postcard to the Highly Capable Program office.

The top 10 percent of the first graders tested in January will go on for further testing.

Students in grades two through five not currently in the program and private school students will be tested in March.

Parents interested in having their child assessed for program eligibility should call Trudy Wright in the Highly Capable Program office at 206-368-4771 to register their student for testing.
