Free Skatebarn trips for teens
Summer is here so it’s time to get out and skate. The Shoreline/South County YMCA is going to Skatebarn, the largest indoor skate park in the area. This is an open invitation for all kids in sixth through 12th grade to join the YMCA for FREE skate boarding on Saturday, July 16 and 30. Please call for registration information. Merit Scholarship announced
More than 2,200 additional winners of Merit Scholarship awards financed by colleges and universities have been announced by National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Officials of each sponsor college selected their winners from among Finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program. These awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.
Locally, Vivian Lin of Lake Forest Park, a recent Shorecrest High School graduate, received a scholarship and plans to study journalism at Scripps College.
Colleges recognize local students
Fort Lewis College recently announced its dean’s list for the 2004-05 academic year, and Shorecrest High School graduate Jeremiah Rush was among those honored.
To be eligible for the dean’s list, a student must attain a grade point average of 3.4 or higher in not less than 14 hours of graded credit and must have completed all work for which they are registered by the end of the semester.
Located in Durango, Colo., Fort Lewis College is a public liberal arts college.
The following Shoreline residents were named to the Central Washington University 2005 spring quarter honor roll: Maria L. Ardissono, Chris L. Bauer, Katie M. Brick, Meriah Lucina Dainard, Karl Matthew Drechsler, Stephanie L. DuCette, Jeffrey Allen Kirkwood, Riley Thomas Kreutzer, Fransisca Mira Nataprawira, Lars J. Teigen and Ryo Yamaguchi.
CWU undergraduates who earn a 3.5 or better grade-point average, on a 4.0 scale, while carrying at least 12 graded credit hours of study are eligible for the honor roll.
Oregon State University also named local students to its scholastic honor roll for spring term. Leah DePaoli of Shoreline achieved a 3.5 grade-point average or higher to be included on honor roll.
