School hosts book fair, pancake feed

Highland Terrace Elementary School will be hosting a Pancake Breakfast and Book Fair from 7:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5 in the cafeteria and library. The book fair is a fund-raiser for library programs at Highland Terrace. All are welcome to come take part in this annual tradition.

Kindergarten sign-up info available

Kinderfest 2005 will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 29 in the Shoreline Room at the Shoreline Center, 18560 – 1st Ave. NE. The Shoreline School District Kinderfest provides an opportunity for parents who will be enrolling their children in kindergarten for the 2005-06 school year to gather information about the various kindergarten programs and services available.

Preschool open house, kids’ sale

North City Cooperative Preschool will be holding an open house and children’s sale from 9-2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5 in the gymnasium located at 2545 NE 200th St. in Shoreline. The sale will include children’s clothing and toys, from infant to teen.  Information on NCCP program for children 9 months – 5 years, and school tours will be available. Festival celebrates culture and history

Taiko drummers, a cultural fashion show and lots of ethnic foods will be featured at Parkwood Elementary’s Heritage Night. The third annual multi-cultural event is being held from 5-8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12 at Parkwood, 1815 N 155th St. in Shoreline. Admission is free and the whole community is invited.

Heritage Night is a three-hour event in which amateur and professional performers from the school and community join together, celebrating various cultures with song, art, music, dance and food. Each year, Parkwood students work on classroom projects related to culture and history, culminating in a piece of artwork, song or performance on Heritage Night.  For more information, contact Kathleen Wong 206-367-4818.

Room Nine

open house

The Room Nine Journey School invites parents of all K-8 students to attend one of the school’s Visiting Days in order to have their children’s names registered in the lottery drawing next spring. The next day is Jan. 26.

Enrollment in The Room Nine Journey School is open to all K-8 grade students in the Shoreline School District. It is currently housed at the Aldercrest Learning Center.

Photography scholarship

The Professional Photographers of Washington is pleased to announce that applications are being accepted for the 2005 Student Photographer of the Year Award, which is open to all high school seniors in Washington state, graduating in the year 2005. One student will receive a $1,000 scholarship grant, which will be used to further the applicant ‘s study in the photographic arts.

Walk-a-thon for tsunami effort

“Walk for Waves 2005” is a non-profit walk-a-thon scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 29, at the Shoreline Stadium.

Registration forms can be picked up at Shorecrest, Shorewood, Kellogg, and Einstein, for te district-wide effort. All proceeds will be donated to LFP Rotary and go straight to Tsunami victims who are in dire need at an orphanage in southern India. Donations can be made through pledges to local participants in the event or at registration desks at any time during the walk-a-thon.
