Room Nine fun day, silent auction

Room Nine Community School is pleased to invite the community to its first annual Family Fun Day and Silent Auction from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 30 at Room Nine Community School, located at 2800 NE. 200th St. in Shoreline.

The event will feature games, food, prizes, a dunk tank, (dunk your favorite teacher or principal) as well as the usual auction fare of raffle baskets and great items to bid on in the silent auction.

The Fun Day runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with the silent auction running from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Hang Time auction set for Saturday

Support the Shoreline community at the Hang Time Silent Auction, from 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday, March 26 at Hotwire Online Coffeehouse, located at 17551 15th Ave. NE., Shoreline. For five years, Hang Time at Kellogg Middle School has provided a safe place for youth after school-hours. As grant funding runs out, help ensure Hang Time continues long into the future. The family event will showcase Hang Time teen talent with performances, an art showing by Art Club, appetizers prepared by Cooking Club and much more.

S’wood jazz band finalist for festival

Jazz at Lincoln Center has announced the Shorewood High School Jazz Band and 14 other bands are finalists for its prestigious 10th Annual Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition &Festival. The high school jazz bands will compete in New York City on May 14-15 for the opportunity to play on the stage of Avery Fisher Hall on the Lincoln Center campus. This year, more than 6,000 newly transcribed Ellington scores, along with educational materials, were sent to more than 1,000 high schools in the United States, Canada and American schools in Brazil, Mexico and Switzerland. More than 100 bands entered the competition by submitting a recording of three Ellington songs.

Shoreline hosts competition

The North Puget Sound Regional History Day Contest took place March 16 at the Shoreline Center. The theme for this year’s contest is “Communication in History: The Key to Understanding.” Students could work individually or in groups to create an entry in one of four categories: documentary, exhibit, performance or research paper. More than 350 students from 12 local schools participated, with the following Shoreline students continuing on to the state-level competition on April 30:

From Shorewood: Sean Blanch and Mitchell Young (group documentary), Monica Finney (individual performance) and Liliya Shtikel and Rachel Menth (group performance).

From Shorecrest: Grant Davis (individual performance).

State winners will advance to the national contest June 12-16 at the University of Maryland at College Park.

Board designates foundation week

The Shoreline School Board honored the work of the Shoreline Public Schools Foundation by proclaiming the week of March 28 through April 1 “Shoreline Public Schools Foundation Appreciation Week” at its March 21 meeting. The foundation’s fund-raising breakfast and luncheon takes place March 31.

Running Start info presented at SCC

Eligible high school juniors and seniors may take college courses, tuition free, while completing their high school education. Attend an informational session from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 6 at Shoreline Community College to learn more about the program. SCC is located at 16101 Greenwood Ave. N. in Shoreline.
