Jog-a-thon for school playground

Edmonds Elementary School students were out for a fun afternoon of fitness on Wednesday, May 4. For 30 minutes, they jogged, ran, hopped, danced and walked as many laps as possible.

Money raised will be used to purchase new playground equipment. The majority of the current school equipment needs to be replaced. Playgrounds are not funded in the general school budget.

Special matching funds make this the ideal time to make a donation to the Edmonds Elementary School PTA. Donations will be quadrupled under the matching fund system.

A new playground will improve the whole neighborhood. To help, stop by the school, 1215 Olympic Ave., Edmonds, or call 425-670-7311 x2515.

Rotary honors educators

The Mountlake Terrace Rotary Educators of the Month for March and April from the Edmonds School District have been announced.

For March, Terrace Park K-8 School’s Diane Graham, music teacher, and Jim Raymond, technical support specialist, were honored. Graham’s many contributions to the Edmonds School District include most recently her work with the arts program at Terrace Park. Raymond, prior to passage of the district’s technology levy in May 2004 and since, has contributed greatly to student success with using technology.

For April, the honoree is Sheila Person, secretary at Mountlake Terrace Elementary. “Mrs. Person goes out of her way to make sure everyone who enters Mountlake Terrace Elementary finds it an inviting and nurturing place,” principal Jackie Tanner said. “The amazing thing about Mrs. Person is she doesn’t just go through the motions, she truly listens, and it is obvious to students that she deeply cares about them.”
