Jackson asst. principal named

Donald T. Lichty has been offered and has accepted the assistant principal position at Jackson High School.

In addition to his recent Principal’s Certification, Lichty has a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University, a master’s teaching degree, Doctor of Jurisprudence and a Masters of Divinity. He has served as a teacher, social studies chair, head football coach, athletic director and his current position as an administrative intern at Curtis High School.

Lichty will join current assistant principals Larry Fritts and Dave Peters full-time beginning July 1.

Civil rights speaker visits EvCC

Everett Community College Student Activities Brown Bag Lecture Series and the Diversity &Equity Center present Rev. James Lawson speaking at noon on Tuesday, May 10 in Baker 120 and at 7:30 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room, Parks Student Union.

Lawson was a colleague of Martin Luther King Jr. and continues to be actively involved in civil rights activities across the United States. He teaches “Nonviolence and Social Movements” at UCLA, is a member of the Advisory Board of the Center for the Advancement of Nonviolence and received the 2004 Peace award.

Lawson will speak at noon in Baker 120 in honor of the 40th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act and the 45th anniversary of the removal of the apartheid signs. At 7:30 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room, he will show “A Force More Powerful: The Nashville Episode” — a part of a series about nonviolent movements in the 20th century.
