Two more free family fun nights

Join the Family Support Center of South Snohomish County for its Free Family Fun Nights. Local students honored

Six seventh-grade students from Holy Rosary in Edmonds were recognized for their leadership roles in a ceremony April 29 at St. James Cathedral. Brian Brown and Katy Olson were awarded for their academic achievement; Casey Lorraine and Annie Wilson for co-curricular participation; Brenna Durnin for faith and Katy Duff for community building and service. Honorees were chosen from the entire Archdiocese from Vancouver to Bellingham and east to the Cascades.

Resident named to Dean’s List

Edmonds resident Erik Taubeneck, a sophomore in the College of Arts &Sciences at American University in Washington, D.C., was named to the fall 2004 Dean’s List.

Employees honored at EdCC

The Edmonds Community College Foundation honored exceptional faculty and staff in May. Registrar Pat Huffman (now the college’s institutional researcher) received the Barbara Patterson Exempt Employee Award. Classified Excellence Awards went to Lenora Ebenal, program assistant Counseling and Resource Center, and Lorraine Necaise, instructional technician in the Developmental Education Division. Cheryl McLean received the Part-Time Faculty Award, for teaching more than 20 years in multiple departments. Accounting instructor Donnie Kristof-Nelson received the Echelbarger-Sherman Exceptional Faculty Award.

Nan Sarb, an instructor for the college’s allied health education classes, received the college’s Above and Beyond Award, recognizing community volunteerism, her work helping others with breast cancer and starting Community Yarn Creations, a group of volunteers who knit and crochet to benefit various causes.

E-W students win merit scholarships

Channing Jones and Chen Xie each were recently named National Merit $2,500 Scholarship recipients. These Edmonds-Woodway High School students were two of 2,500 winners from the pool of 15,000 nationwide finalists.

UW honors high-scoring students

The Washington Search for Young Scholars, operated by the Halbert and Nancy Robinson Center for Young Scholars at the University of Washington, recognized fifth- and sixth-grade students for scoring in the upper 3 percent of all pupils taking the Washington Assessment of Student Learning. These young scholars were honored at a ceremony May 7.
