Roundtable covers emergency prep
Edmonds School District Superintendent Nick Brossoit invites the community to attend a roundtable discussion at noon Wednesday, June 1 in the Educational Services Center at 20420 68th Ave. W. in Lynnwood. The topic will be “Emergency Preparedness: Equity Among the Schools.”
Brighton offers summer program
For parents wanting to jump start their child’s kindergarten experience, Brighton School in Lynnwood is offering Kindergarten Kickoff, a new summer program to help build necessary academic and social skills in preparation for kindergarten. This educational experience lays the groundwork for academic skills critical for success in a school setting. The eight-week program, which begins June 13, includes morning sessions, five days a week (with optional extended-day services at select schools).

Local college honor rolls
Oregon State University recently announced the names of students who made its winter term honor roll. To be on the honor roll, students must carry at least 12 graded hours of course work and attain a 3.5 grade-point average. The students include: Lisa Tierney (Brier), Christina L. Hood and Caitlin J. Murphy (Edmonds).
Western Washington University also announced its winter term honor roll. Local students listed include: Brier residents Jameson Ernst, Megan Girard, Erin Lafferty and Nicole Reynolds, Edmonds residents Ian Davis, Brian Hutchinson, Laura Hutchinson, Jessyca Murphy, Lana Rigelman, Jill Robertson, Tiana Roma, Sally Shiau and James Wilson, Lynnwood residents Janna Bronemann, Cynthia Cobb, Ryan Hjorten, Meghan Knudson, Esther Park and Gregory Varnau, and Mountlake Terrace resident Elisha Hamilton.
Eastern Washington University’s dean’s list for winter quarter included Lynnwood residents Takldet Andeberhan, Michael Clawson, Desiree Grover, Shannon Callahan, Jason Demeroutis, Lisa Hagstrom and Maggie Weiber, Mountlake Terrace residents Melissa Giampietri, Kathryn Gillespie and Carolyn Jongeneel.
Students named to Who’s Who
Gonzaga University students Colleen Baxter, of Brier, and Danell Wood, of Lynnwood, were named to the “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.” This honor is based on academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities and potential for continued success.
Lynnwood boys selected for state
High school juniors from all over Washington state will meet together at Central Washington University in Ellensburg to participate in the American Legion Boy’s State competitions this summer.
High school juniors are selected by local Legion Posts to attend the program. Lynnwood Post 37 has selected Aaron Parks and Markus Bjornerem of Lynnwood High School to participate. Both boys are well qualified through civic and school activities.
Boy’s State is a private program organized by the American Legion, initiating youth into the political workings of the country.
Attend a babysitter training class
Did you know that the Shoreline / South County Family YMCA will be offering a Babysitter Training Course in June? Youth ages 10 and older will learn: how to recruit clients, how to plan age-appropriate activities, how to handle emergency situations and will receive a babysitter’s manual and their CPR and first aid certification. Training will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 18 and June 19. Cost: $50, financial assistance is available. Call Jamila for more information or to register at 206-364-1700.
Police scholarships distributed
Graduating Edmonds-Woodway High School seniors Joseph McCleary, Terra Hoover and Channing Jones each received a $1,500 scholarship from the Edmonds Police Foundation at a recent presentation ceremony attended by Edmonds Police Department officials and Edmonds Police Foundation members. The Edmonds Police Foundation (a group of local, private citizens dedicated to raising money for the purpose of providing necessary funding for Edmonds Police Department needs not covered in its tight budget) is proud to honor these exceptional students by contributing the scholarships toward their higher education.
