Child care at EdCC for public, students and staff

Edmonds Community College’s Center for Families has full-time child care available for children ages 3-5 years, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays fall Sept. 5-Dec. 21.

Weekly rates for the public are $230. Edmonds Community College and Central Washington University-Lynnwood students and staff pay less, with part-day rates available.

Lynndale Elementary celebrates 50 years

The Lynndale Elementary PTA is sponsoring a Back-to-School Barbecue with Lynndale students and alumni from 6-8 p.m. Sept. 7 at the school.

Alumni can contact lynndalelions@hotmail.com and give contact information and the years they attended Lynndale.

Lynnwood child is finalist in pageant

Leah Sarles, age 4, who attends Soundview school in Lynnwood, is a state finalist in the National American Miss Washington Pageant to be held Sept. 1 in SeaTac. The pageant is for girls 4 to 18.

The winner will receive $1,000 cash and compete in the national pageant in California.

Sarles’ activities in the pageant will include dance, music and art. She also enjoys singing along to her favorite movie, “High School Musical,” taking dance classes at Alderwood Dance Spectrum in Lynnwood, and taking ice skating lessons, according to her mother Doreen Sarles.

New course offerings at EdCC this fall

The public can register now for fall classes at Edmonds Community College. Classes start Sept. 24 and run through Dec. 13. Here’s what’s new this fall:

• Grants of up to $5,000 for tuition and books are available to students interested in earning a degree in Materials Science Technology, a field of engineering used to develop stronger and lighter high-tech composite materials for use in aerospace, marine and medical devices.

• Online classes in event planning or lodging for Hospitality and Tourism.

• A Health Unit Coordinator Certificate teaches management and communication skills needed by hospitals.

• Online dental front office training, including a Dental Billing course that teaches dental documentation, American Dental Association codes, insurance processing, billing/collection strategies and dental confidentiality guidelines.

• Project management, a class where students learn to work in a project team and create plans that identify the project scope, constraints, stake holders and risks and more.

EdCC Foundation Golf Classic Sept. 7

Hawaiian shirts and hula skirts will be de rigueur this year at the Edmonds Community College Foundation Annual Golf Classic, 12:30 p.m. Sept. 7 at Harbour Pointe Golf Club in Mukilteo, followed by a luau inspired awards banquet.

The golf classic is the foundation’s second largest fundraiser, after its annual auction.
