Information fair

for district is set

The Edmonds School District’s information fair will take place from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Jan. 8 at Meadowdale High School, 6002 168th St. SW in Lynnwood.

Anyone interested is welcome to attend to learn more about the schools and programs in the district. There will also be specifics regarding kindergarten registration, high school science curriculum materials and HIV/AIDS curriculum review. Superintendent Nick Brossoit and members of the school board will be on hand.

Kindergarten registration begins

Kindergarten registration for the 2005-06 school year in the Edmonds School District begins Jan. 10 at the child’s home school. The student must be 5 years old by midnight on Aug. 31, 2005 in order to register. Call 425-670-7230 for school attendance areas.

To register, bring a copy of your child’s certified birth certificate, proof of residency, names and phone numbers of two emergency contacts and proof of immunizations.

Most schools offer part-day and all-day programs. Contact Shelley Roehl, 425-670-7176, for more information.

EdCC scholarship info available

Get information on how to apply for Edmonds Community College Foundation scholarships at a workshop 12:30 -1:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 10 in Meadowdale Hall 124 at Edmonds Community College, 20000 68th Ave. W., Lynnwood.

The foundation administers as many as 40 scholarships all of which are available to eligible current or future students of Edmonds Community College who complete an application. Applications are available beginning Jan. 3, online or on campus, for scholarships for the 2005-06 academic year.

Speaker on racism slated at EdCC

Tim Wise, one of the most prominent white anti-racist voices in the United States, will speak from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Jan. 11 in the Triton Union Building room 202 at Edmonds Community College on “But Some of My Best Friends Are Black …Racism and the Culture of Denial.” Wise has a bachelor’s degree in political science from Tulane University, where his involvement in the anti-apartheid movement received international attention and the thanks of Nelson Mandela and South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

This event is part of the college’s celebration of the life of Martin Luther King, Jr, and it is free.
