Summer Playground open

From 10 a.m.-3 p.m. beginning June 28 or 29 at Briarcrest and Highland Terrace elementary schools, Shoreline Parks &Recreation will offer its Summer Playground Program.

It offers a Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday option and costs $75 for the five-week program. The Meridian Park School option has already filled. The children are divided into two groups for those entering first through third grades and fourth through sixth grades.

The program includes visual and performing arts, sports, team and individual games, special events and field trips. For more information or to register please call Shoreline Parks Department at 206-418-3383.

Shorecrest wins theater awards

Shorecrest High School received three awards at the annual 5th Avenue High School Musical Theatre Awards. Individual awards were presented June 8 for outstanding female actor in a leading role to Tessa Archer as Peter Pan in Peter Pan; outstanding male actor in a leading role to Brian Earp as Ugly in HONK!; and outstanding group ensemble to the pirates in Peter Pan.

Local celebrities presented the awards in front of more than 2,000 guests and performers. A complete list of winners is posted at www.5thavenuetheatre.org.

Students donate art for auction

Shorecrest High School students in Tami Johnson’s ceramics classes created 150 individual pieces of art that can be assembled together to form sculptural pieces. These works will be auctioned off at the Arts for Kids GALA June 25. The GALA raises money annually to benefit the Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council’s artist-in-residence program.

Booster Club presents awards

The Shorewood High School Booster Club announced four $1,000 scholarships to seniors Brynne Bannister, Monica Cruz, Kristi Pihl and Karissa Thomsen at the ‘moving up’ assembly on June 11. The recipients were selected from a total of 16 applicants. Scholarship selections were based on the students’ co-curricular involvement in school, clubs, activities and community service.

SCC serves volleyball camps

From 8 a.m.-3 p.m. June 21-25, June 28-July 2 and Aug. 16-20, SCC will offer traditional volleyball camps for junior high and senior high school students. The camps are designed for competitive volleyball players interested in improving skills. Cost is $95 and special pricing is available for students who register for more than one camp. Parks &Rec offers preschool

Shoreline Parks &Recreation is offering a one-day-a-week class from 10 a.m.-12 p.m., Monday or Thursday, or 1-3 p.m. Monday at the Richmond Highlands Recreation Center.

This new summer program for children four to five years old meets six times for arts and crafts, active games and playground time. The fee is $49. For more information or to register, please call Shoreline Parks &Recreation 206-418-3383.

Senior receives scholarship

Elizabeth Shdo, a senior at Shorecrest High School, received a $2,000 scholarship from the BECU Foundation. Shdo was awarded the scholarship, one of 36 high school students out of 550 applicants, for her community service project in the fall that raised more than $1,300 for the Leukemia &Lymphoma Society. She will attend Loyola-Marymount University in the fall.

ASE exams offered at SCC

Computer-based Automotive Service Excellence testing will be available from July 19 through Aug. 15 at the Shoreline Community College ACT Center at the Lake Forest Park Towne Centre. Registration for the first round of tests will begin July 6 and continue until Aug. 9. To register for the exams, call ASE’s toll-free number at 1-800-525-6929 on or after July 6.
