SCC showcases student artists

Aspiring artists from Shoreline Community College will display their work until Aug. 15 in the SCC Art Gallery from 8 a.m-4 p.m. in the Administration Building (Bldg. 1000), 16101 Greenwood Ave. N.

The show features sculpture, photography, paintings and drawings.

Teacher to attend science program

Lisa Chi, a teacher at Shorecrest High School, will attend the Fred Hutchinson’s Science Education Partnership Program this July.

The partnership hosts middle and high school teachers from across the state as well as two from Singapore.

The workshop will allow participants to work on lab techniques as well as teaching methods.

Student receives scholarship

Thuch Malual, of Shorecrest High School, recently received the Floyd Schmoe Peace Scholarship in recognition for his pursuit and interest in world peace.

Malual lived most of his life in refugee camps in Sudan, Kenya and Ethiopia. Malual said he wants to return to his native Sudan and work to create unity in Africa. Malual plans to attend Cascadia Community College.

The scholarship will be expanded beyond Shorecrest in 2005 and available for graduating high school seniors in Shoreline Public Schools and Seattle Public Schools.

Parks and Rec offers event

The Mid-Summer Nights Dream Dance will take place from 5-9 p.m. on July 17, at Spartan Gym, 18560 1st Avenue NE. The free event will feature a live band and snacks.

Lunchtime music summer series

The Canote Brothers Fiddle Tunes, Country and Swing will play from 12-1 p.m. July 13 at Hamlin Park, 16006 15th Avenue NE.
