School supplies available
The Works and The Center for Human Services are co-sponsoring an event for families who need help getting ready for the start of school from 5-7 p.m. Aug. 27.
The Works, located at 16516 10th Ave. NE, will be offering school clothes, hygiene supplies, school supplies and new underwear and socks.
The Center for Human Services Shoreline Family Support Center, located at 17018 15th Ave. NE, will be offering free haircuts, food and entertainment.
Shoreline School District will provide a shuttle bus between the two sites for Shoreline District families. Shuttle vouchers available at each site.
Room nine orientation
The Room Nine Community School is holding a special summer orientation on Tuesday, August 12 from 7-8 p.m. at the current location, 2545 NE 200th St., at the old Aldercrest Annex in Shoreline.
Room nine school is focused on promoting a lifelong love of learning by creating a supportive community of students, teachers, parents and neighborhood as part of the classroom.
Students in grades K-8 forge new learning trails, experience hands-on learning, and work in a multi-age setting, while meeting, or exceeding, all of the WASL standards.

scholarships
The BECU Foundation has awarded $2,000 scholarships to Sarra Sharif and Elizabeth Shdo of Shorecrest High School for their excellence in volunteer work.
SCC President attends meeting
Shoreline Community College President Holly Moore traveled to Chicago to attend the board meeting for The Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) in June. She has been a member of the 23-member Board of Trustees since last year.
CAEL is a national non-profit organization which creates and manages effective learning strategies for working adults through partnerships with employers, higher education, government and labor.
