Student receives scholarship

Leah Mize, a civil engineering technology major at Shoreline Community College, recently received the Washington Award for Vocational Excellence.

The scholarship provides either six quarters or four semesters of tuition at any two-year community college or public or private four-year college in the state.

Parade grand marshall picked

Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Board member Larry Blake was recently named Grand Marshall in the 2004 Celebrate Shoreline parade. Blake, of Shoreline, also volunteers with youth sports. The parade will take place on Saturday, August 21.

Overnight trips for teens

Trips are open to teens ages 12-19. Parents can pick up and drop off their children at the Richmond Highlands Recreation Center.

Trips to Silver Lake at Mount Baker and Lake Chelan as well as sea kayaking in the San Juan Islands are available. Dates and fees are July 7 to July 8 for $70, August 17 to August 19 for $120, and August 25 to August 26 for $120, respectively.

Beach naturalists host walks

Beach naturalists in Shoreline will host beach walks from 12- 3 p.m. July 3. The naturalists will lead the walks and discuss low tide marine beaches and the organisms living on those beaches. Contact 206-418-3383 for more information.

Manager of assessment named

Superintendent Jim Welsh and the Shoreline School Board recently appointed Nina S. Potter the manager of assessment. Potter is currently a program analysis consultant for several districts and has worked as the coordinator of research and evaluation for the Highline School District.
