McCray receives EdCC award
Nadine McCray , of Lynnwood, recently received the Edmonds Community College Above and Beyond Award in recognition for her contributions to the community. McCray works part-time as a cashier at the school and also volunteers to help English as a Second Language students practice their conversational skills.
For six years, McCray has also worked as a tutor with the Latino Education and Training Institute in Snohomish County. She also is a volunteer in service projects with the Mountlake Terrace Rotary Club as well as a founding member of a local chapter of First Book, an organization donating new books to low income families.
The Above and Beyond Award honors Edmonds Community College employees for volunteer work in the community as well as the college.

class of ‘64

Local student to attend conference
Edmonds-Woodway Senior Matthew Discrescentis, of Edmonds, was selected to participate in the Global Young Leaders Conference (GYLC) taking place in Washington D.C. and New York City this July.
Discrescentis is one of 350 scholars from around the world to attend the conference. GYLC serves as a leadership development program for high school students who displayed leadership potential and scholastic merit.
Participants will debate issues from global warming to terrorism and human rights.
Dodge dealer donates car
Jack Carroll’s Lynnwood Dodge recently donated a 2004 Dodge Viper to the Edmonds School District Automotive Technology Program to be used in advanced classes this September. The program is based at Meadowdale High School and has students from the Edmonds School District as well as neighboring districts.
The program teaches students automobile basics, an introduction to automotive technology, and advanced automotive. Upon completion students can receive certification with the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence.
CPMS dedicates student art project
College Place Middle School dedicated its first student-designed public art project on June 21. The project was funded by the Edmonds Arts Festival, Hubbard Family Foundation, Public Education Foundation (PEF), and Alderwood Rotary and the College Place Middle School Parent Club.
Students created templates used in the final metalwork of the art project.
Local student receives scholarship
Isabel Ramberg, of Edmonds, recently received the Sons of Norway’s King Olav V Norwegian-American Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to students who plan to study Norwegian heritage or modern Norway.
Ramberg is studying economics at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia and will study at the University of Olso, Norway, this summer as part of her scholarship.
