Enrollment falls in Shoreline School District

September numbers show that enrollment in the Shoreline School District fell from about 8,995 full-time-equivalent (FTE) students to about 8,744 FTE students this year, a loss of about 251 students.

Another student count will be done Oct. 1.

District officials anticipated about 8,711 students, meaning that about 33 students more showed up than planned for.

“We were awfully close to right on,” said Marcia Harris, deputy superintendent.

The district closed two elementary schools last year.

This year, elementary enrollments range from 381 on the low end at Briarcrest Elementary to 497 at Meridian Park Elementary, the largest elementary in the district.

Raise school funds through BoxTops

Locals can raise money for the Shoreline School District by participating in the BoxTops For Education program through General Mills.

Clipping box tops from specific products and sending them to a local school earns 10 cents per box top for the school.

A “10 cent Box Tops” coupon appears on participating products, which includes Cheerios, Betty Crocker, Pillsbury, Ziploc, Kleenex, Hefty and more.

Participating products are listed at http://www.boxtops4education.com/.

Locals can also raise money for the district by shopping online and buying books through the “Box Tops Book Club.”
