Learn to dance at YMCA event
To celebrate its 12th anniversary, The Northshore YMCA will host a family hoedown and chili cook-off from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 5 at the Old Kenmore Firehouse. Admission is free.
Activities will include square dance lessons, horseshoe and bull ring toss, pie eating contest, miniature horses, and more. For more information, call 425-485-9797.
EvCC trustee earns annual award
Everett Community College Trustee Gene L. Chase recently was named Community College Trustee of the Year by the Washington State Trustee’s Association for Community and Technical Colleges at its spring convention at Walla Walla Community College on May 13-15.
Chase has served on the Everett Community College Board of Trustees since April 2000 and has served as a volunteer on the Arlington School Board, UW Alumni Association and College of Forestry Advisory Committee, and Everett Community College Foundation.
Chase owns C&C Contracting in Arlington, and has a bachelor of science degree in Forestry from the University of Washington and an associate of arts degree from Everett Junior College.
Learn how to get politically involved
Everett Community College is will host a conference to help students and the community learn how to get involved with government from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 22 in the Parks Building Multipurpose Room.
Community leaders and elected officials will share their experiences and answer questions. The event is free. The agenda includes:
• 8:30–9: Registration and continental breakfast.
• 9–9:15: Welcome and introductions.
• 9:15–10: How a bill becomes a law.
• 10:15–11:15: How to talk to your legislators.
• 11:15–12:15: Washington State Ethnic Commissions.
• 12:15–12:45: Lunch (provided).
• 1–2: The power of your vote and voice.
• 2:15–3:15: The new generation.
• 3:15–4: How to get involved.

Summer school classes in the Everett School District are now open for registration.
Registration forms are available at individual building sites. Tuition-based, onsite and online are available for elementary, middle and high school age students and community members.
