S’wood drill team earns high honor

The Shorewood High School Drill Team recently earned a Superior rating on their drill routine at the WIAA State Dance and Drill Championship competition March 19 and 20 in the Yakima Sun Dome. A rating of Superior is the highest rating possible, requiring a points total of between 270 and 300. Only a few teams out of the more than 40 teams from 4A schools competing in all 6 categories achieved this distinction; and Shorewood’s score earned them a third place in the drill category. Teams come from all over the state to compete in six different categories, Drill, Pom, Dance, Hip Hop, Color Guard and Production. Shorewood competed this year in both Drill and Pom, one of only a few teams to compete in more than one category. The Shorewood High School Drill Team are the 2004 WIAA District 1 Champions in the combined Drill and Pom categories.

Darrell earned the honor of “ASCAP Songwriter of the year” and is a songwriter, in-demand instrumentalist and an acclaimed performer and recording artist, officials said. Scott has contributed a string of hits including “Long Time Gone” and “Heartbreak Town” for the Dixie Chicks; “Great Day to Be Alive” for Travis Tritt and “Born to Fly” was a No.1 hit for singer Sara Evans. Darrell recently released his fourth album, “Theater of the Unheard.”
