Martha Lake raises $ for playground

Martha Lake PTA will host its second annual Playground Renovation Auction Friday, April 30 at Martha Lake Elementary School, 17500 Larch Way in Lynnwood. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. with silent auction items and the live auction will begin at 7:15 p.m.

EWHS students raise cash for cows

Edmonds-Woodway students and staff were scheduled to present a $15,000 check to Heifer International’s Bolivia Gender Equity Coordinator, Gezel Callabero, at 9 a.m. Thursday, April 22 in the school theater. The check will pay for $15,000 worth of livestock for communities in the poorest regions of Bolivia. Elementary students from College Place Elementary and Holy Rosary Catholic Grade School also were scheduled to attend the event. The donation was raised through student-lead events and local contributions. The purpose of the Bolivia Heifer Project is to help provide poor families in Bolivia with a source of protein, income and hope for the future, while teaching, raising awareness, and involving as many community members as possible in the joys of world citizenship, officials said. Public hearing date set on I-728

Edmonds School District staff will host a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 27 in the board room in the Educational Service Center (20420 68th Ave. W, Lynnwood) regarding how funds from Initiative 728 have been dispersed in order to improve student achievement. Initiative 728 is intended help reduce class size provide funding to increase student learning. Between 2003 and 2004, the Edmonds School District used its I-728 money for class size reduction, extended learning opportunities and professional development for staff, officials said. Auction to support Clothes for Kids

Clothes for Kids and Edmonds Community College will host the sixth annual “Celebrate the Children” dinner auction Saturday, May 8 in the Triton Union Building on the EdCC campus, located at 20000 68th Avenue West in Lynnwood. A social hour and silent auction will begin at 6 p.m. and dinner and a live auction will take place at 7 p.m. Auction items available this year include and “instant wine cellar,” and “imagination trunk,” a weekend getaway to LaConner and a fire station birthday party. Entertainment will include a fashion show featuring children wearing outfits from Clothes for Kids and an opportunity for donations. Proceeds from the event go directly to Clothes for Kids, a non-profit organization that provides new and nearly new clothing for low-income students in the Edmonds School District. Grant to help keep local lake clean

Martha Lake Elementary School recently was awarded an environmental grant in celebration of Earth Day, Thursday, April 22. The school will receive $500 from Wal-Mart and SAM’S CLUB to help maintain Martha Lake without chemicals, officials said. For more information, go to www.walmartfoundation.org.
