EWHS to host hunger banquet
Edmonds Woodway High School students will host a World Hunger Banquet from 7 to 9 p.m. March 3 at the school. The event, sponsored by OxFarm America, Heifer International and the EWHS Heifer Project volunteers, offers an opportunity for participants to learn about and experience the issue of world hunger and poverty while raising money for those causes. Speakers and presenters from around the world who have experienced poverty and hunger themselves, will join each table to discuss their experiences. All proceeds from the event will go to the EWHS Bolivia Heifer Project. Attendance is limited to 260 people, and reservations are necessary and must be made by Friday, Feb. 27. WASL Info. Night set for Edmonds
The Edmonds School District will host a WASL Information Night from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 3 at the Educational Services Center, 20420 68th Ave W., Lynnwood. Topics will include: what the WASL measures are, how it compares to other assessments, what the results tell us and how the results are used in the district and in the state. There also will be a question-and-answer time.
Foundation sets date for breakfast
The 17th annual Edmonds Public Education Foundation business breakfast is scheduled for 7 to 9 a.m. April 30 at Edmonds-Woodway High School. This year’s guest speaker is Bill Gates, Sr., co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The event will be emceed by KOMO 4 News journalist April Zepeda. Get free income tax help at EdCC
Edmonds Community College will offer income tax help at no charge to the community on a drop-in basis at the following times, dates and locations:
• 2:30-4:30 p.m., Mondays and Tuesdays during February at Mulligan’s Café
• 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m., Fridays, 3-5 p.m., Sat., Feb. 28 and March 6, Snohomish Hall
Services offered include answering questions, preparing returns and free e-filing. Some of the volunteers also speak Vietnamese, Ukrainian and Spanish. Those who want assistance should bring: W-2 forms, 1099 or 1098 forms, a list of other income and expenses and a copy of last year’s tax return.
The college’s accounting department this year was able to establish a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site through the Internal Revenue Service after receiving a $2,500 grant from the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges. For more information call 425-640-1685.
