Free, wireless web access at EdCC

Students at Edmonds Community College with a laptop and wireless card can now access the school’s web site and the Internet for free, thanks to a network upgrade made this winter, officials said. The $25,000 addition was approved by student government and was paid for with student technology fees.

Get oriented with on-line degrees

Edmonds Community College will host an orientation meeting for those interested in learning how to earn a two-year degree from the college and continue on to earn a bachelor’s degree rom Washington State University in Human Development, Business Administration (Management Information Systems or General Business) or Social Sciences – all on-line. The event is scheduled for 6 p.m. Feb. 24 in Snohomish Hall 304A, on campus. For more information, call 425-640-1028 or go to http://campus.edcc.edu.

Prepare for citizenship at EdCC

Edmonds Community College is offering a citizenship preparation class 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays, Feb. 21-March 13 in Snoqualmie Hall, Room 310 on campus. Those involved will discuss United States history and government and prepare for the oral citizenship test and citizenship interview. Cost is $89 and includes application materials, study materials, individual guidance through the process and free admission to future courses until citizenship is earned. Students must have a valid Alien Registration Card (Green Card). Call 425-640-1840 to register.

Nominate an EDCC distinguished alum

Edmonds Community College Foundation is asking community members, staff and students for nominations of extraordinary alumni of the college for its 2004 Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award. Recipients receive permanent recognition on campus and honor at an annual ceremony. Nominations are due by March 5. Since it began in 1991, EDCC’s Distinguished Alumni award has been given to 29 people in recognition of academic success, professional achievement and community service. They include outstanding community leaders who are artists, attorneys, fire chiefs, musicians, educators, therapists, business owners and engineers. Last year’s recipients were Mike McKinnon, mayor of Lynnwood, and Catherine Pike, a registered nurse practitioner and community volunteer.
