Donate cell phones, cartridges

In an effort to preserve the environment, students and parents of Room Nine Journey School recently began recycling empty printer cartridges and used cell phones that would normally be taken to landfills. The cartridges and cell phones collected by Room Nine Journey School are sent to FundingFactory, where they are inspected and then sold to recycling companies to be remanufactured. The cartridges are later sold to secondary markets, including retailers and office-supply stores. Cell phones are either donated to nonprofit markets such as women’s shelters, sold to refurbishers who sell them back into the domestic market, or sold to foreign markets. As a reward for their efforts, participants in the FundingFactory Recycling Program can earn technology, classroom or recreational equipment. Companies interested in participating can do so free of charge in the FundingFactory Business Support Program. FundingFactory will send each supporting business free, postage-paid shipping boxes for the return of collected cartridges and cell phones. Community and business supporters can also drop off cartridges and cell phones at the school, which is located at the Aldercrest Annex, 2545 NE 200th Street in Shoreline.
