Search for new Super forum set

Because current Edmonds School District Superintendent Wayne Robertson will retire at the end of the 2003-04 school year, the Board of Directors is planning an aggressive national search for a successor. Forums have been scheduled to gather input to help district staff define the qualities and skills for selecting the next superintendent. Community forums are planned for 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Dec. 10 and 11. Both meetings will be held at the District Office, Educational Services Center, 20420 68th Ave., W. in Lynnwood. For more information, call 425-670-7044.

Challenge Testing dates set for K-5

Challenge testing for the 2004-2005 school year for current Edmonds district kindergarten through fifth grade students will be hosted at the student’s home school Jan. 8 – 23. Highly capable services will be offered at each of the district’s middle and K-8 schools beginning in the fall of 2004. Because of this change, sixth grade students will not be tested at a district level.

Referral forms are available at the school office or at the reception desk in the Edmonds School District Educational Service Center, 20420 68th Ave. W in Lynnwood. Forms are due to the Highly Capable office by Jan. 12.

K-5 students attending private school or home school will be tested on Saturday, Jan. 17 or 24. Call 425-670-7157 to set up an appointment.

Preschool open house date set

Meadowdale Preschool will host an open house from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19 for parents and families who are interested in finding out more about preschool possibilities for 2004. Preschool staff and current students will be in attendance to answer questions, and kids are invited to check out the facility. The school is located at 6801 N. Meadowdale Road, just two blocks west of Meadowdale Elementary School. For more information, call 425-745-5055.

Parenting classes offered at EdCC

Edmonds Community College will host infant and toddler parenting classes beginning in January at the new Center for Families on campus. The classes offer an opportunity for parents and their young children to interact together in a safe environment and participate in age-appropriate educational games, share successes with other parents and learn what typical behaviors are for young children and how to set realistic expectations. The classes, led by a parenting instructor and teacher, include 10 two-hour sessions and cost $96.
