Summer events for kids and parents

The Shoreline Center for Human Services is offering several events for kids this summer. To register for either event, call 206-362-7152.

• The ‘Back to School Event’ will offer games, prizes, food and basic school supplies for elementary and preschool age kids from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 22 at the Family Center, 17018 15th Ave. NE, Shoreline. The event is free. Registration is necessary.

• ‘Science Fun’ gives kids four to six-years-old the opportunity to “explore the wonders of science.” Simple, hands-on experiments will be available for all ages, but kids under 4 must be accompanied by an adult. The event is free. Registration is necessary.

SCC president appointed Chair

Shoreline Community College president Holly Moore was recently appointed Chair of Health Care Personnel Shortages Task Force by the Workforce Training and

Education Coordinating Board. Moore will be taking the place of the current Chair and president of Bates Technical College, Brian Ebersole, who is retiring this year.

The task force Moore will be joining is made up of 20 community representatives in health care, labor, professional, education and government positions.

Cookbook name contest at SCC

Shoreline Community College’s Classified Staff Training Development Committee is scheduled to release a cookbook in September 2003, and is asking students and community members to help come up with a name. To participate, send your cookbook name suggestions to barbk@shore. ctc.edu. The winner will receive a free copy of the cookbook. Deadline is Aug. 1.

Several board positions to open

With the Nov. 3, 2003 school board election coming up, three seats on the Shoreline School Board will be open including Director District 1, currently held by Mike Jacobs, Director District 5, currently held by Judy Parsons and Director District 4, currently held by Steve Robinson.

‘Shoreline Salutes’ the community

Shoreline Community College is inviting legislative and community leaders, advisory council members, contributor, staff and faculty members to their “annual kick-off” event from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18 at the college.
